Update iPhone using Macbook:
This is a step-by-step process, so do not skip any step until the end.
Step 1: First, connect your iPhone to your Macbook using the charging cable.
Step 2: Once you connect the iPhone, you will see the phone info on the left panel of the MacBook. Click on it to open the phone information.
Step 3: You can see what is the current OS version on the right. If there is any update available then you can see it below.
Step 4: Now Click on "Update".
Step 5:. A confirmation window shows up, click on "Update" again.
Step 6: A Window opens and shows, what the update includes like enhancements and bug fixes. Click on "Next".
Step 7: In the next window, Click on "Agree" as shown below.
Step 8: Now, you’ll be asked to enter the passcode on the iPhone as shown here. By the way, it is not the Apple ID password, it is just the iPhone unlock passcode. On your iPhone enter the passcode to approve the update process on Mac.
Step 9: Once you enter the passcode on your iPhone click on "Continue" here on Macbook.
Do not disconnect the cable through out the process. If you think this is hard to do while reading and doing, go checkout the Video Tutorial of Update iPhone software on Macbook where I clearly explained each and every step with live demo.
Step 10: Now the MacBook starts downloading the iPhone’s software update. This process takes a while based on your internet speed. So be patient while it downloads the software.
Step 11: After the download is completed, the downloaded software will be extracted by the Macbook.
Step 12: Once the extraction process is completed, the Macbook backups your iPhone locally. A window would show up on the Macbook asking to backup the iPhone and should you encrypt the backup. For now, I’m going with the option "Don’t encrypt". However, it is always recommended to use the Encrypt backups option.
Step 13: After the backup is completed, at this step the Macbook prepares the iPhone for the software update. On your iPhone, the Apple logo would appear. Soon after that, the Apple logo with a processing bar would show up on your iPhone.
Step 14: After a while, the iPhone software update will begin. You can see the progress below the progress bar and also on the left side as well.
15. Finally, you will see the message on the MacBook, saying the iPhone has been updated and is restarting. At this step, your iPhone starts restarting. Click on "OK" on the Macbook to continue.
Step 15: Once your iPhone is restarted, it appears on the left panel of your Macbook. Click on it.
Step 16: As you can see, the iPhone software updated and it is up to date.
Step 18: Click on check for update for the latest software updates. In a dialog, you can see that this version is the current version of the software. Click "OK". Not just once but three times in a typical Apple way.
Step 19: Now let's head over to the iPhone and verify the update. As you can see, the software is updated.
That's it. I hope you successfully updated your iPhone using MacBook. This is a time-consuming process but it's worth it. Hope you learned something today.
